Welcome!

This website provides basic information about my services to those of you who speak very little to no German at all. (All others are encouraged to try my German site first - linked here!)

The most important group of those people are young scientists from abroad who seek information and/or admission to our study programs Master of Science in Physics or PhD in Physics. I would like to encourage the hesitant among you to actually ask your questions!

And everybody else too, whatever other question you may have regarding our institution or work, please feel free to get in touch! My email address is joerg.mertins@ur.de

Student Counseling Service

Our Student Counseling Service is free of charge, confidential and always available to you for any question you have which is connected to your studies at our university, however faintly. The Corona pandemic has moved many resources for help and information online. Even now after meetings between real people at the university itself are well established again some online resources may simply stay more convenient for you.

Meeting ID: 624 6476 0168
Passcode: 695026

A waiting room prevents you from crashing an ongoing meeting unintentionally.

Please use preferrably Email to contact me for other online services from
off-Campus, we will then set up a proper way to meet online.

Office hours during lecture period:
Tuesday, 10-11am upon prior notice and Thursday 2-3 pm.

Master and PhD admission and language requirements

Our academic programs Master of Science in Physics and PhD in Physics do not require you to speak German fluently. Their language of instruction is (mostly) English.

General information about admission can be found here (Link!).

(Remaining) questions are often very individual and best addressed by personal contact.

Please get in touch with me if you

- would like to have more information about any of these programs,
- need advice for or help with any formal procedures and / or academic questions  before or after your application / admission,
- need to get some previous academic achievements recognized as part of mandatory credit points during your Master of Science in Physics studies at our department,
- need advice on any (personal) problem directly or indirectly affecting your current studies at our department,
- don’t know who the right person to ask is, or
- want to suggest improvements of any kind.

Student Counseling Service is always free of charge and confidential!

I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely, Jörg Mertins.
